Geo Adventure is an upcoming 2018 American 3D computer-animated film produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures based on Geo G's video game series of the same name. The film was first announced on May 5, 2011 and directed by Geo G. and written by Janet Healy and is scheduled to be released on October 19, 2018.[2]

The film is set in the era of the first Geo Adventure game. According to the interview with Geo G, the plot includes some fourth-wall breaks, video game jokes, references to famous video games, films and comics and even ironism.

The development started in 1998, after the release of Geo Adventure 3. On May 5, 2011, "Balls", Ubisoft Motion Pictures and Glass Ball Productions (Geo G's production company) announced that they will be working with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment to make a 3-D CGI-animated film version of Geo Adventure, with Chris Meledandri producing it.[3] In December 2012, Illumination Entertainment announced that Janet Healy, the producer of Despicable Me, is writing the screenplay for the film.[4]

On August 12, 2013, it was reported that Geo G. has been set to direct the feature.[5] It will be the second Illumination Entertainment film to have a video game adaptation after The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, which was scheduled for a release on April 15, 2016.[6] In May 2014, it was announced that Legendary Pictures would co-finance the film for Universal and Illumination.[1]

On May 8, 2014, it was announced that the film would be released on October 19, 2018.[2] On May 9, 2014, the cast was announced, with Blake Swift joining as Geo Guy, Will Ferell as Gree Guy, and Andrea Libman as Jea Tenromon.[7]

The film is scheduled to be released on October 19, 2018.
